K0009

This costume, woven in the 1950’s, is an example of the richness and complexity of the patterns used for modern costumes. The background turquoise colour is unusual and quite striking in contrast with the pale and dark violet and white in the horizontal bands.

K0009-AP01

  • Small patterning and the placement of purple, lilac and turquoise on a white background give the apron a light, delicate look
  • The bottom of the apron is edged with a lilac wool fringe
  • Woven waistband and long ties

K0009-BD01

  • A relatively dense pattern in white on a turquoise background, accented with purple
  • Peplum sewn in overlapping pointed pentagonal flaps

K0009-BL01

  • Delicate triangles and other geometric patterns are repeated on the sleeves in one wide and two narrower border bands, and on the collar
  • The cuffs and placket are decorated with a clover-like design

K0009-CR01

  • Triangles or inverted v’s are the predominant pattern in this costume, repeated on the crown
  • Edged in white crochet, finished with alternating purple and white-edged points
  • Even the interior of the crown is lined with coordinated patterned fabric
